Race: Points Race #08
Date: 8-7-2005
Location: Richmond, Va.
Track: 360 West Shopping Center
Temperature: 93°F

A another hot day was in store for those drivers who made the trip out to the track on this day. Club members Stan Medlin, Mike Bowman, Sean Tabor, & Mark Poore had been planning a trip to the Great Lakes Challenge and were not on hand to aide in track setup so Paul Knab stepped up to the plate and hauled the track trailer to the site and with help from a few club members and some out of towners the track setup began. The usual layout (see below) was implored to aide in reducing setup time & effort. Angel opened registration following seteup and soon two rounds of controlled practice were run. Once practice was concluded David Basl held a short drivers meeting and qualifiers were setup and posted.

Track Layout

Qualifying: In Qualifying there would be some new faces holding the top spots.
Kevin Randolph secured his first TQ spot of the year in 1/8th Scale with a 19 lap effort on a 5:14.
Terrance Brown won his first TQ of the year in Nitro Touring Sport with a 17 lap run on a 5:04.
In Nitro Sport, Darnell Washington took top honors with a 17 lap run on a 5:15.
Electric Touring saw Angie Ingram get her first pole position of the year with that itty bitty car. She had a 10 lap run on a 5:35 while Tim Aberg won another pole in the Nitro Truck Class with 12 lap run on a 5:07.
And lastly in the Monster Truck division, Cleveland Bey bested Victor Boger to take TQ honors by laying down 5 laps at 3:35.

1/8th A-Main: Kevin Randolph Started off this event the way no one likes to.....in the pits. Having problems with his carb he was forced to start some 35 seconds late which effectively took him out of contention. Terrance Brown on the other hand had no trouble with his car and subsequentially took it to the front and stayed there! Ben Wallace was in close pursuit with Tim Aberg in tow. After the end of 20 minutes Terrance would take first with Ben, Tim, Johnny Pritchett, David Basl, Kevin finishing in that order. Travis Johnson did not start!

1/10th Electric: In Electric Touring only Angie & Tommy Ingram would make the start. Angie would get the best of husband Tommy by 2 laps and have the bragging rights in that household for at least two more weeks. Ben Wallace and Edsel Pinpin did not start.

Nitro Truck: In Nitro truck Victor Boger trailed only the first lap before making a move around Tommy Ingram. Tommy must have still been in shock from the whippin' wife Angie put on him and retired just two laps in. Victor went on to curcuit the track another 20 laps and secure another win this season. Tommy finished 2nd. Tim Aberg and Earl Ingram did not start.

1/10th Touring Sport: From the start of this one, pole sitter Darnell Washington led the field with Craig Jones, Lamont Dunson, & Scott Harrell following closely behind. Tony Carthan, Chris Garrett, Josh Wallace, and James Giles comprised the second pack just a few corners behind. Further back Edsel Pinpin and Terry Goodwin trailed but with mechanical troubles that would soon force both to retire early. Back up front Darnell had his hands full and fought hard to keep Craig and Lamont behind him. But as luck would have it Darnells would run out. When the time had expired Craig would take the win with Tony, and Lamount not far behind in 2nd and 3rd. Scott would have a fine run and be rewarded with 4th as a result. The rest of the field looked like this, Darnell, Chris, Josh, James, Terry, and Edsel. Devon Darby and Travis Johnson did not start.

1/10th Touring Pro: At the beginning of this one TQ, Terrance Brown was probably thinking of pulling off a double. He had already won the 1/8th scale class and would be starting up front with a good shot at this one. He soon would learn that there were three other guys who wanted this one worse. From the starting tone Terrance was in trouble. Mechanical difficulties delayed his start and plagued him the rest of the event. Tim Aberg quickly asserted himself as a front runner and David Basl was gonna make him work for it. As Johnny Pritchett put some pressure on David Tim slipped away to victory. Terrance fighting to stay on the track also made a run a David but in the end Basl would prevail with Johnny and Terrance finishing behind him in that order. Ben Wallace and Darrell Hurlind did not start.

Nitro Monster Truck: Victor Boger made quick his one lap around the track to secure his second victory of the year as his only contender and the TQ, Cleveland Bey was unable to not start.

Remember, the next points race is August 21, 2005
Hope to see you there. Until then,
